The sixth-annual Give A Goat Night pits teachers against one another in various contests to raise money for charity. The Make A Change Club runs the event, which will start at 6 p.m. Friday at the middle school.
The club teaches kids about volunteerism and citizenship.
Advisor Krista Provost said when the club formed in 2010, someone suggested donating farm animals to needy countries and the idea stuck. This year they are hoping to raise enough to donate six more goats, bringing their grand total to 150.
"Now it's the thing that catches people's eyes," Provost said of the goats. "Each year I take a step back and look at the students and crowd. Just knowing that 40 staff members participate too, it's a really cool feeling and I know the kids get that sense."
In front of an audience that usually reaches 450 people, the teachers compete in events such as relay races, a cake eating contest and basketball competitions. The staff divide into teams, each with their own theme.
Previous themes include "Minions" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
The losing team, though, will have to face a punishment. Penalties in the past included cooking breakfast for the winners or eating lunch at a comically small kindergarten-sized table, Provost said.
"That next week on Monday it's always the talk," she said.
Admission is $10 and anyone can attend.
